FOLLOW THE SUN

Created for the Summer Solstice and in celebration of SOLSTICE, presented by garden of tomorrow, a gathering of music, art and ideas exploring our relationship with the living world.

At the centre of this release is the Sunflower. Drawn instinctively toward light, it embodies devotion, resilience and the quiet intelligence found throughout nature. Its movement mirrors the essence of yoga: attention directed with intention. Not toward achievement, but toward awareness.

Surya Namaskar, the traditional Sun Salutation, was an act of orientation. A way of remembering one's place within a larger rhythm. The practitioner turns toward the rising sun not in worship of an external object, but in recognition of the same light within. A symbol for consciousness.

The solstice amplifies this symbolism

It marks a threshold where light reaches its greatest expression. Yet embedded within that peak is a lesson in impermanence. The moment of maximum light is also the moment the cycle begins to turn to darkness.

Yoga returns to this idea repeatedly : The solstice reminds us that light and darkness are not enemies. They create one another. Yoga is the practice of meeting both with equal attention. The emphasis is less on chasing positive states and more on developing equanimity—remaining steady through pleasure and pain, gain and loss, light and dark.

Meditation is not about becoming something new. It is the practice of turning toward what already sustains you. Following the sun, in a yogic sense, means continually orienting attention toward clarity, presence, and truth.

This piece explores this relationship between nature and practice through a distressed visual language inspired by 1990s independent culture. Grainy photography, photocopied textures and monochromatic graphics reference an era when music was more than entertainment—it was a vehicle for searching. A time when art, nature, spirituality and collective experience existed outside conventional structures the emotional weight of 1990s alternative culture.  A gateway into questions of identity, consciousness, freedom and belonging. A generation looking for something beyond itself through sound, art, nature and shared experience.

Like the music culture that inspired it, this piece is rooted in a meditation on impermanence and a garden for what comes next.
